Heinen Theatre

Houston Community College’s intimate 300-seat Heinen Theatre serves as the performance home of the college’s music, dance, and drama departments, which produce several shows throughout the year. The Theatre also hosts free family performances with its “Saturdays at Central” series.

Established in 1995, the Czech Center Museum Houston is a non-profit organization that promotes Czech cultural heritage and history. The center includes a gallery housing art and artifacts, as well as a performance hall for concerts.

Main Street Theater at Chelsea Market

The winner of our 2008 Parents’ Picks quest to find the best day camp for big kids in Houston, Main Street Theater opened its second space at Chelsea Market with a 190-seat theater dedicated to the youth theater program and to large-scale MainStage classics and musicals. (The theater’s original, 92-seat venue is in Rice Village.) The youth theater program puts on children’s productions for school groups and the general public. A concession stand is open during performances.

Clear Creek Community Theatre

The Clear Creek Community Theatre has been serving Clear Lake since the 1960s with shows, youth programs, and workshops. In the youth apprentice program, children ages six to 18 learn about stage movement, voice, props, lighting, character development, and more. All aspects of the program lead up to a public performance by the participants.

HITS Theatre

The winner of our 2008 Parents’ Picks quest to find the best day camp for teens in Houston, HITS was founded in 1980 as a place where kids could receive professional-quality theater training. Classes are open to children from age four through 18, and HITS also produces family-oriented Broadway-style theater performances, featuring actors of all ages.

The Ensemble Theatre

The Ensemble also offers the Young Performers Program for children ages seven to 17, combining arts education, creative dramatics, and performance, allowing students to experience the arts through the richness of African-American creative expression. At the end of each four-week session during the summer (and one-week session during spring break), students participate in a live performance, either on stage or behind the scenes.
